Think pink - Tuesday

Bloggers log: Day two of dressing pink.
I've found that pink is actually a difficult colour to match with other colours besides black, if you want to tone it down a bit.
I'll try to be creative, but at the moment I'm searching my brain and my closet for solutions. Can you feel the suspense? :-)

Pink Positive - Monday

This week my challenge to my self is to wear pink every day. I'm not going for a full pink outfit though, but a splash of pink here and there.

I started out with one of my favorite skirts in the brightest pink with big red sequins:

Thrifting Treasures

I love treasure hunting in charity and thrift shops - that's no secret. Lately I've found some really nice things in my humble opinion. just goes to show that one woman's rubbish is another woman's treasure.
First up is a vintage baby blue feather hat from a Copenhagen hat maker (I guess from the 40s - correct me if I wrong). I really like the idea of wearing hats, but sadly they just do not work with a bicycle helmet and a ponytail... Those two thing even rarely work together.

The hat is a little small for my head, but I'm gonna keep it just for the stories it is whispering to me. Besides it is pretty-ugly just the way I like it, and thus it will be found on display in my closet.

Next up a pair of red Ferrucci stilettos (found for only 40 Dkkr/8$/4,5£!). I love the punch-outs holes and the quirky "bow" detail:

I will show my other finds another day... oh how I love to show and tell :-)

New year, new resolutions (oh no!)

A happy New Year to you all! Hope you had fun far into 2010 and that Christmas was a time of heartwarming moments for you as well.

I've been such a busy busy bee at my new work all December, but now it sure is about time to visit my old neglected friend (this blog).

I've decided to set up some resolutions and smaller projects for the new year. I actually hate resolutions, as I can never keep them and end up with a guilty conscience... but hey! Sugar and sweets never hurt anyone - did they?
Well, this year I'm only making promises I know I can keep, so the illusions of my will of steel are not hurt. And the list is as follows:

  • I'll give myself and my closet an assignment each week and show you guys the result. This first week of January is going to be the week of PINK! And I'm already looking foreward to starting the year in the colour of youth.
  • I really want to set up an etsy shop with vintage clothing and bits and bobs, and at the moment I'm looking into the rules and such. I have already started working on filling my stock room (well, cramming more into my overflowing closet that is) and I look foreward to buying even more beautiful items without looking at size and fit for myself, but in the hopes that someone out there can use it. (I'll keep you posted)
  • I'll document the projects made in Fisk on this blog, showing you guys what we make out of second hand clothes.

BTW my old autumn resolution (the one about not buying any clothes the rest of the year), weeell it did not stick... big surprise...

As I got the new job, I found my attire had to match my newfound professionalism and life in an office, and thus I "needed" some pencil skirts... (bought from charity shops though, to ease my conscience)

See you soon!

My lucky day :-)

Yesterday was the best day this year so far!

I've been jobhunting since January, and I was about to reach my breaking point with boredom and the uncertaincy of my future.
Well, Monday I got a call from a place I had sent an application. I had to call back Tuesday as I was about to enter the cinema. Tuesday we had a small talk by phone, and I was asked to come for an interview Wednesday. The interview went really well, and I got a call the same day for a second interview Thursday. This was more a short recap of the interview the day before, and it was soon revealed, that I got the position!! Hooorayyy!
I start my new life as a hardworking Marketing Coordinator Monday, wish me luck! :-)

My luck had not run out with the job offer. Thursday evening the Fisk Redesign Competition took place and my team won!!
It was all in the name of recycling and charity, and in my team we had chosen to use men's wear for all three outfits.
We had a dress made out of a suit, a coat made of two jackets and a tie dress go down the runway. My sister, Vala, is working the suit-dress.
And what a success! The celebrity / fashion-wise judges had some really nice comments and the crowd cheered us on (led by my mom, my sister Laura, my BF and my friends Nana and Laura - thank you all!!)

Our minicollection is listed below. Behold! :-)

I'm an easy target...

... when it comes to all things cute, kitsch, artsy and somewhat Asian/Japanese, so when I saw the online shop Shana Logic I was sold on the spot!

I sometimes wonder why I love and cherish these childish things so much... maybe it is about time I grow up and get serious, start reading the news paper. But then again. As long as I can still function in the adult world, I will just consider it as part of my charm...

(BTW, I know I wasn't supposed to be back posting so soon, but I've been babysitting all day due to a strike in the Copenhagen kindergartens, and now I just need some me-me-me-time).

For now I'm just pseudoshopping - picking things I like and posting them, but you never know... some day in the distant future, when I win the lottery, I just might fill my virtual shopping cart...

Well I've piled up my favorites below:

Pinup bath towels for the holiday home. I already have a (rather kitschy, borderline ugly) tin can for tea and one for coffee with pinups on, plus a pillow my mom gave me. They give the summer house a nice retro feel. I love the bright colours and the very sensual yet innocent look.

Beautiful, beautiful prints. I am smitten with birds at the moment, I have no clue why. Bird brain? Bird flu? oh no!

The cutest scarves ever!! They won't keep me warm during the winter, though, except for my childish and cupcake craving heart :-)

Damnation! These pillows are cute as well! I loooove pandas! I got to see some bamboo eating ones in a Chinese zoo a few years back, and I almost climbed the fence. Big monochromatic teddybears, that could kill you with a single hug.

And the other pillow? Well, it is darling and I could use it as an excuse to tell you that I am now a red head :-) (I have actually been for a while, but I updated the colour yesterday and now it is bright and shiny).

Speaking of pandas: This hat is the best! Pandaliscious!

Random cuteness below. I am not wearing a lot of jewellery at the moment, but these tasty and cute pieces could change that.

I share a fondness of Japanese style cartoons with my sister Laura, and I've posted the rice ball in her honour. She has made the cutes cartoon cinnanmon rolls in minibeads (does that sentence make any sense at all?). Well, to you Laura! Cheers!

Wow! I know. This was one of my more hyper posts. But hey. It's late at night, I've been around kids all day (being the adult), and excessive cuteness makes me giggly and light headed. So. Be. It.

Until next time

See, I told you I'd be back soon, but as I cannot promise that I'll be posting before late next week, as I'm a busy bee sewing (and jobsearching still, my oh my!), I will leave you with some procratination material until then.
The cute birds below are from Nanibird, and they are free! Just download your favorites, print, fold and glue - fun, decorative and cheap!
I'm looking foreward to making my own soon (after the fashion show mentioned in my last post), and please tell me how it works out if you give it a go!

Fun fact: According to Boligliv (where I first spotted these birds) "nani" is Japanise for "what?".
Josh McKible is the creator of the Nanibirds, but many other artist have been invited to make their version, therefore there are a lot of different designs to choose from - the ones above are just my personal faves :-)

So we meet again

Hi guys! Wow has it really been that long? Bad blogger, baaad! (Insert slap over my hands here).
Well, I've actually been really busy in my spare time lately (and loving it!) doing some sewing for a charity fashion show next week.
It is the shop/café, called Fisk, where I'm a volunteer, that is behind the event and we are about 7 seven teams competing for the honour of winning. It is all about redesigning second hand clothes in collaboration with a mentoring designer.

My Belgian teammate, Lotte, and I have been really lucky. We got a Danish-Faroeic designer called Barbara I Gongini as our mentor and she is really sweet and full of great ideas for twisting our designs in a new direction. Her style is very sculptural and avantgarde, but she luckily knows how to transfer that into our more wearable approach to clothes. It has been interesting, and I cannot wait to see what the others teams have made. And, man, I hope we win! (just for the fun of winning as there is no real prize on stake).

I will post some pictures from the show next week, but for now it is a deep dark secret what we are working on :-)

So for those of you who will be in Copenhagen Thursday the 19th, the show is at Karrierebar from 18.00-24.00. (Tickets can be bought in Fisk).

See you sooner than you'd think!

A cup of light please

While waiting for the holiday home to be mine (well ours... I know, I know) I've been looking for inspiration on various design and decor blogs. There are hits and misses, but one of my new faves is decor8 where beautiful pictures go hand in hand with tips for online shopping, mostly vintage oriented.

I really like it when you see something and think "I could make that myself and it would still look great" (knowing deep down that I would never really get around to make it myself). Well, while looking through the decor8 back catalogue, I stumbled upon these surprising and beautiful tea cup lamps from domestic construction and yes I would certaintly love a cuppa :-)

All pictures found here

Just imagine these above a table full of cupcakes and good friends...
Maybe you could even use an old tea or coffee pot and make one bigger lamp (?). I only wonder how to make holes in the buttom. The rest should be easy breezy.

Well... if I ever get around to make some, you will hear about it here :-)

BTW!!! We get the keys for the holiday house tomorrow morning! And the redecoration begins!!! I promise I will post some before and after pictures when I have something to show.

5 days of summer

I had written most of this post earlier today, but blogger didn't want to work with me and deleted everything (not blogger's fault - my computer is acting up). For. Crying. Out. Loud.
So now I'll try to remember what I had written, and hope I'll get to the end this time...
I went to Athens with my boyfriend two weeks ago, and it was a pleasant surprise! We had been warned that the city would be polluted and lacking charm, so our expectations were modest.
We do not at all share the pessimistic views! If you dare to explore the city it will show you its gems.
We stayed in Monastiraki (below), an area full of archeology and market stalls and street art on every corner. BTW I am a redhead now, so it IS me in the pics :-)

No matter where you are in Athens you can see the Acropolis towering over the city as a reminder of the history buried underneath the pavement and unearthed around you.

On our way down from the Acropolis we found the cutest little "village" on the hillside. All the houses were painted white with blue windows and doors, and there were cats, cats and more cats everywhere - my kind of place! It reminded us a lot of the beautiful island Santorini, which we visited many years ago during a holiday on Crete.

One day we hiked up the hill of Pnyx where democracy was born and the muses danced. I love the name Pnyx - it sounds like a sneeze :-) Pnyx, Pnyx, Pnyx!

We visited every temple and ruin in town, and the weather was lovely (most of the time) so we enjoyed everything a lot.

What you cannot see on the picture below is that right behind me where a couple of turtles getting it on in the animal planet kind of way... if you get my drift... right in the Keramikos.

The few rainy days were spend in the museums: the new and dead cheap Acropolis Museum and the National Museum of Archeology (where the picture below is from).

And yes, I am that lame...
